Eastern White

thumb_fsp-samples15.jpgWe pride ourselves on the quality of our shingle products and Fraser Wood Siding’s Eastern White Cedar shingles are manufactured following one of the industry’s strictest production processes. Premium mills in Quebec and New Brunswick supply us with re-squared and rebutted (R&R) shingles, which enter our state-of-the-art dehumidification dry kiln.

Our shingles are then packaged and shipped in a natural finish, or in a 100% acrylic factory finish from Cabot that coats all six sides of the shingle.

Eastern White Cedar shingles are available in a full range of designer shapes and colors. Factory-stained shingles are U.V. stable, water-repellant and mildew resistant with a 5/20 year warranty against cracking, peeling or blistering.

About the wood
Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) is found in all eastern Canadian provinces and extends westerly to eastern Manitoba. It is sometimes referred to as eastern cedar, northern white cedar or arborvitae (tree of life).

While it occasionally reaches a height of 80 feet and a diameter at breast-height of 3 feet, it is generally a comparatively small tree about one foot in diameter and 45 feet in height. It is usually found in low swampy ground, but also grows in limestone ridges with shallow soil. The wood has a pleasant odor and is very lightweight once kiln dried. The heartwood is a light brown and the sapwood is very light in color. It is comparatively soft, has a fine and even texture and splits readily.
